About the Heckscher Youth Program

Our Mission Statement

The purpose of the Heckscher Youth Program is to provide teens ages 12-17 an opportunity to enrich their lives through education, physical fitness, creativity, and interaction with their peers. Even if only a small portion of teens are positively affected, the program is a success. Some of the teens that utilize the program are those who do not have much guidance and are in need of some direction.

The program begins this year on Friday July 15, 2011 and continues to run on every Friday (Rain or Shine) in July and August at Brookwood Hall in Islip between the hours of 6:30 PM till 9:30 PM. The indoor facility is located off Main Street and Union Boulevard.

July Schedule August Schedule
Friday, July 15th Friday, August 5th
Friday, July 22nd Friday, August 12th
Friday, July 29th Friday, August 19th
Friday, August 26th

The Heckscher Youth Program provides a drug and alcohol free environment in which to meet new friends, learn technological skills, and play. If the teens are at the program, most likely they are less inclined to engage in unsupervised activities elsewhere. The teens have fun with their peers and can feel like they belong to a worthwhile group. The community spirit abounds and they are respectful and appreciative of what is being done for them.

The teens have given back to the community through food drives, which enable them to feel that they are helping people less fortunate than themselves, and thus build their self-esteem. They feel that someone out there cares!
